Types of Absences: Acceptable absences include illness or injury, death in the immediate family, medical or dental appointments, court or administrative proceedings. The child must complete the enrollment process and attend school before he or she can claim an acceptable absence.

Students are not allowed to plug any electronic device (cord) into an outlet without prior permission and supervision. If a student has possession of or uses such devices during the school day, the item(s) will be confiscated followed by a written warning. If the same or similar offense reoccurs, the student may be subject to disciplinary action.
School Closings Due to Weather: The principal or designee will assess the potential danger of poor weather conditions and notify parents and students via email as well as Blackboard announcements specifying JHA’s school delays, early dismissals and/ or closings.

School personnel can suggest suspension or expulsion to control outrageous behavior or to remove a student from exceptionally disturbing, vandalizing or dangerous situations. The principal shall have authority to suspend for a period of 5 days or less any student who willfully violates JHA’s Disciplinary Policies. Although suspended, students will be given an opportunity to take any missed examinations during the suspension period immediately upon return.
Academic Honor: Code Academic integrity is a fundamental value for any educational institution. At JHA, students are expected to honor and uphold this value by acting honestly in every aspect of their academic life, whether in school or studying at home. Violations of academic integrity, such as cheating on tests or copying another student’s homework, are a serious matter. All students are required to uphold the Policies and Procedures under Student Discipline.
Plagiarism: Students are required to provide references when using phrases or statements provided in another authors’ material. It is an academic offense to use someone else’s words in homework assignments and class work assignments and not give credit to whom you are quoting. Plagiarism is taken very seriously at the college level and JHA students must rehearse the righteous acts in preparation for college. If a student needs assistance with writing, he/she should start with asking their teacher, but there are many resources JHA offers to assist with student learning.
Parental Assistance Parents are strongly encouraged to be leaders by example and reinforce their student(s) educational commitment. Confirmation of homework completion on a daily basis will ensure comprehension of learning materials taught and a successful academic year. Parents are also encouraged to review the student’s homework, and provide suggestions for improvement if necessary.
